Individual Therapy Sessions
Are you fearful, anxious, depressed, or grieving? Filled with self-doubt? Struggling with an important relationship? Going through a life transition? Do you wonder who you really are or what's the point of life?
Most of us have times when we think “there must be more to life.” We feel stuck, sad, worried, hopeless, or have a vague sense that something is missing or wrong. We may be plagued with self-doubt or a running commentary in our heads that says we aren’t good enough. We may fear that we aren’t living up to our potential, that we want to make a difference in the world and we don’t know how. We may struggle to make it through a day, feeling numb and flat or feeling chaotic and out of control. We may be addicted to substances, food, or other escapist activities. We may be in the midst of a painful transition such as a relationship breakup, the death of a family member or friend, the loss of a career, or a crisis of faith. We may be struggling with problems originating in our attachment histories or past traumas.
Underneath this distress, we may sense the possibility for more enthusiasm, more joy, more aliveness, and a greater connection to others and to life. We hear about healing and transforming our self, even awakening to our true nature, and we long to bring these possibilities into our lives.
Welcome. I’m so glad you found your way here.
We all have a unique narrative that is the lens through which we see ourselves, others, and the world. This narrative is not only a thinking story we tell about ourselves, it is a story deeply embedded in our bodies as reflected in our posture, physical sensations, movement patterns and nervous system arousal. The early attachment relationships we experience as children provide the initial template for this narrative.
Therapy is an invitation to illuminate and transform your thinking, feeling, and somatic narratives. By updating your narrative into the radiant here and now, you can most fully and consciously participate in your life.
My intention is to provide a safe space where together we can approach, uncover, illuminate, allow and ultimately transform your narrative and hence your experience of life. I will help you increase awareness of the inextricable connections between your beliefs, emotions, and body as these arise in response to life. Rather than solving problems from your thinking mind, I will help you access your embodied (i.e., thinking, feeling, sensing, spiritual) intelligence. A disposition of mindful awareness, openness and curiosity will help you discover these interconnections and find your own innate healing wisdom and wholeness.
For those who are interested, this level of attention to the self naturally leads into an exploration of one's deepest spiritual essence.
Some of my clients seek psychotherapy as a support to their spiritual awakening. I am well-versed in many nondual wisdom traditions (e.g., Buddhism, Hinduism) and embodiment practices and can allow the psychological, physical/emotional and spiritual to function as one.
Research consistently shows that the quality of relationship between therapist and client is more impactful than the use of any particular theory or technique.
In our work together I strive to be genuine and real and I will encourage you to do the same. From a ground of empathic listening and presence, I will invite you into a safe and authentic human encounter -- the therapeutic relationship. Human beings are relational creatures and wounds that were created in relationship often heal most fully in relationship.
My style is especially suited to individuals who desire deep self-exploration, appreciate life is an ongoing process of growth and wish to cultivate intimacy with themselves and with life in the context of presence.
I recognize you are unique!
Every client has a unique narrative and a unique set of needs. Based on your particular needs, goals, culture, beliefs, and history I will tailor my approach to meet you where you are and assist you along your life journey. Particular techniques I may draw on in our work together include:
~ cognitive-behavioral work to change unhelpful beliefs about yourself, others and the world
~ emotion-focused work to go to the heart of each emotion, recognizing that emotions connect the body and mind, the past and present, and our biology and life story
~ somatic work to address sensory and movement experience particularly as this domain relates to trauma and early attachment issues
~ psychodynamic work to discover habitual patterns of relating and to realize new ways of connecting
~ mindfulness-based work to promote radical inclusivity, a means to embrace all of reality as it is
~ humanistic/transpersonal work to address how we give meaning to our lives
~ attachment/relational work to allow whatever arises in our relationship to promote deeper intimacy
~ spiritual work that embraces intimacy with all things (i.e., intimacy with all facets of ourselves, intimacy with others, intimacy with the world in the present moment)
Are you ready to live with more intimacy, aliveness, and freedom? Are you ready to express the gifts that are your birthright?
Wherever you are in your journey, it would be my honor to support you in living a life of greater joy, intimacy, and courage so that you may participate in the world from your fullest expression of being. Click here to learn more about getting started. Click here to contact me.
The inner world -- what is it? if not the intensified sky, hurled through with birds and deep with winds of homecoming. ~ Rilke
